How We Catered a 140-Guest First Birthday in Mira Road East
A look inside a vegetarian first-birthday buffet for 140 guests at Shrushti Complex, Kalpataru, Mira Road East, including live pani puri, malai kulfi with falooda, and a 30-minute setup completed despite the venue having no lift.

Planning food for a child's first birthday means serving several kinds of guests at once: children looking for something fun, adults expecting a complete meal, and family members who may need a specific dietary option. For this 2025 celebration at Shrushti Complex, Kalpataru, in Mira Road East, we prepared a vegetarian buffet for approximately 140 guests, supported by live pani puri and malai kulfi with falooda counters.
The event also presented a practical setup challenge. The building had no lift, so every part of the catering setup had to be carried manually. Our team completed the setup in approximately 30 minutes.

The event brief
The family needed a varied vegetarian spread that could work for both children and adults. Along with the main buffet, the plan included live counters that guests could visit throughout the celebration.
The venue was arranged for a first-birthday programme with guest seating facing the themed stage. We planned the catering service around the available hall space so the buffet and live counters could operate without becoming part of the main seating area.

A vegetarian menu with variety
The menu combined a welcome drink, starter, main-course buffet, accompaniments, and desserts:
- Kiwi-pineapple mojito
- Paneer chilli
- A Kolhapuri preparation
- A paneer main course
- Puri and phulka
- Jeera rice
- Dal fry
- Green salad, pickle, papad, and chutney
- Gulab jamun and jalebi
- Drinking water
Sabudana khichdi was prepared in a limited quantity for guests who required it. Recording such requirements before service helps keep a smaller dietary batch separate and available for the intended guests.
Live counters for an interactive service
The live pani puri counter gave guests a freshly assembled chaat option alongside the buffet. The counter was prepared with puris, flavoured water, chutneys, and dedicated service staff so portions could be assembled as guests arrived.
For dessert, the event included a malai kulfi with falooda counter. Keeping this separate from the main dessert service gave guests a made-to-serve cold dessert option in addition to gulab jamun and jalebi.

Completing the setup without a lift
The main operational constraint was access. Because the building had no lift, the team had to carry the buffet vessels, counter materials, food, and service equipment manually while moving repeatedly between levels.
Despite that constraint, the catering setup was completed in approximately 30 minutes. This required the equipment and buffet components to be moved in a clear sequence rather than bringing everything into the hall at once.
For events in residential complexes, access conditions can materially affect preparation time. Confirming lift availability, loading access, walking distance, and the event floor before arrival helps the team choose the right unloading order and staffing plan.
The outcome
The strongest outcome was the customer's subsequent action: after this first-birthday celebration, the same customer placed orders for two additional events. We are not presenting this as a quotation because no written testimonial was collected.
Practical lessons for similar birthday events
- Confirm venue access before finalising the setup schedule, especially in buildings without a service lift.
- Separate live counters from the primary buffet so guests can move between services without creating one queue.
- Record limited dietary requirements, such as sabudana khichdi, with an expected portion count before the event.
- Balance familiar buffet dishes with one or two interactive counters that work for both children and adults.
- Keep cold made-to-serve desserts separate from hot buffet desserts for smoother service.
